Creepshow 2

Creepshow 2 was released into theaters on May 1st, 1987. Filming locations include Humboldt and Prescott, Az. and Bangor, Dexter, Hampden and Ripley, Me. The movie was directed by Michael Gornick, his only feature film. However, he was quite active on the television horror scene, directing four episodes of the Tales From the Darkside series while also producing the pilot episode Trick or Treat, which in my opinion, has the creepiest looking witch ever put on screen. He also directed two episodes of the television series Monsters, while producing twenty-eight episodes. While Creepshow had five short stories, Creepshow features three. Old Chief Wood'nhead, The Raft and The Hitchhiker as well as a wrap around story. Five were originally planned, but Pinfall and Cat From Hell were ultimately scrapped due to budgetary reasons. The latter was used as one of the short stories three years later, in Tales From the Darkside: The Movie. Stephen King makes a cameo as the truck driver in The Hitchhiker segment and makeup consultant for the film, Tom Savini, played The Creep in the wrap around story. Les Reed and Rick Wakeman are responsible for the films score, which wasn't even officially released until 2017. The films first DVD release was on April 10th, 2001.

Prologue - 33 Main St. Dexter, Me. 04930

Dexter was incorporated as a town in 1916 and has a current population of roughly 3900. It's been noted that Stephen King drew some inspiration for the fictional town of Derry, known as being the central location in IT, as well as other King novels, from Dexter, Maine.

Curly's Service Station (Old Chief Wood'nhead) - Iron King Rd. Humboldt, Az. 86327

The trajectory of the road was changed at some point in the 90's. The peak seen in the distance is Spud Mountain, which tops out at an elevation of 5,544 feet. Iron King Rd. borders the Iron King Mine property.

Lake (The Raft) - At the end* of Granite Basin Rd. Prescott, Az. 86305
(Granite Basin Lake)

The lake is a small reservoir, built in 1939. It has an average depth of six feet. It's located inside of the Granite Basin Recreation Area. In 2013, the Doce Fire, which burned roughly 6,767 acres of forest, occurred dangerously close to Granite Lake. And just as it was portrayed in the movie, there really is a "No Swimming" sign next to the lake.

Franklin Place Condominiums (The Hitchhiker) - 112 Franklin St. Bangor, Me. 04401

The structure was built in 1984.

The truck is driving southwest along W. Ripley Rd. The barn visible in the distance, on the right side of the road, was still there at the time of my visit.

  1. I said everything looked pretty much the same about your Phantasm post, but other than that (extremely old looking even back then) service station no longer being there everything looks EXACTLY as it did.

    1. I do not. Although I'm sure you're right about it being somewhere in Maine.

    2. I think they were asking specifically which road.

    3. The area where the ending was shot is off of Maine hwy 23 & 154. Basically just take Main street straight out of Dexter heading west. It's near an area called Ripley. Neals Drive will be your landmark to let you know you're in the right spot. Good luck!

    6. Steve Van Geyte, I'm currently working on a book about the making of the film and have access to the director's personal files from the production, including the call sheet with the address of the location, which I visited myself in April 2017. I'm 110% positive.
