The Gauntlet was released into theaters on December 21st, 1977. Filming locations include Phoenix and Superior, Az. and Las Vegas, Nv. It was directed by Clint Eastwood. It was the sixth of forty feature films directed by Eastwood. It co-stars Sandra Locke, who was in a relationship with Eastwood at the time. They starred in six films together: The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), The Gauntlet (1977), Every Which Way But Loose (1978), Bronco Billy (1980), Any Which Way You Can (1980) and Sudden Impact (1983). The score was composed by Jerry Fielding. The films first DVD release was on September 4th, 2001.

On October 7th, 1994 a five-block section of Fremont St. (Main St. to Las Vegas Blvd.) was closed off to automobile traffic and construction began on the Fremont Street Experience. The tower structure at the far end of the street can also be seen in Back to the Future Part II and The Stand (1994).

The mines were in operation from 1907 to 1930. Gypsum deposits were mined here. In April of 2018, all of the entrances to the mine were sealed off, for safety reasons.

Bus comes to a stop - Adams St. and N. 2nd St. Phoenix, Az. 85004The bus was traveling east along Adams Street, crossed N. 2nd Street and then crashed into the steps of the Phoenix Civic Plaza. Phoenix Symphony Hall served as the police department exterior. In 2005, the Phoenix Convention Center west building was constructed on the former site of the Phoenix Civic Plaza. After it was built, the entrance used for the police department in the movie was no longer visible.
