The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released into theaters on October 17th, 2003. Filming locations include Granger, Manor, Taylor and Walburg, Tx. It was directed by Marcus Nispel, who six year later, would go on to direct the Friday the 13th remake as well. Daniel Pearl, the cinematographer on the original, returned to handle the duties once again. The films heroine, Erin, was played by Jessica Biel. And honestly, I think she was the perfect choice for the role and can't imagine anyone else playing the part better than she did. Leatherface was played by  Andrew Bryniarski, who brought a great physical presence to the role. He would be the first actor to portray Leatherface more than once, when he would reprise the role three years later in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. John Larroquette provided the opening narration, just as he did for the original. I'm usually really skeptical when it comes to remakes, especially when it's one of my favorite films of all-time. However, the filmmakers found a way to tell an updated version of the story in a respectful way that didn't demean the original film or the franchise. By no means is the film perfect, but it's pretty obvious they put a lot of thought, effort and passion into the project. The score was done by Steve Jablonsky. The films first DVD release was on March 30th, 2004.

Swimming - Near Harper Rd. and Deviney Rd. Martindale, Tx. 78655
(San Marcos River)

The spot they swam at was right next to the Martindale Dam. This portion of the San Marcos River is popular for swimming and tubing in the summertime. The area sits directly behind the Harper Seed Company Cotton Gin, which was used as the Lee Bros. Meats building in TCM: The Beginning.

Hewitt house - 901 County Rd. 336 Granger, Tx. 76530

The 6,000 square foot house was built in Austin, Tx. in the 1850's and then moved by train to it's current location in the 1930's where it was rebuilt brick by brick. At the entrance of the driveway there is a gate with "No Trespassing" signs and security cameras. The house and property were again used in TCM: The Beginning.
