If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to contact you and have you take me to some abandoned movie locations like Bells Dinner, I'm going to buy and restore to original condition in the movies. I know people talk big and nothing happens, but it will happen. Thanks again for all your hard work.ReplyDelete
Thank you Brent and good luck with your restorations :)Delete
The view of 'Brackett' was taken facing SW from the area at 35.829823, -115.225949 (just off Southern Nevada Liteweight Road).ReplyDelete
Another unlikely find. Thank you for posting this!Delete
To PaulH: WOW! Thank you! I've been looking for that spot since 2005! Here are the locations I found so far: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrlocation/albums/72157632018133624Delete

Great information board! We spend quite a bit of time in and around Moab, UT. The location of the actual car breakdown is along State Route 128 near mile marker 21 east of Moab. The camera angles appear to line up in all directions. I do have a few photos of the area near the Sorrel River Ranch. The Castleton Tower can be seen in the background during those scenes of the movie. Castle Valley, UT is within a few miles.ReplyDelete
Also, the opening scenes were shot on the road to the West of what was the Texaco station. The building remains a commercial business as a Chevron convenience store. The scenes preceding the gas station fill-up and confrontation with Earl are just a few miles into Canyonlands where the transition is made from the lower elevation up to the higher elevation on the S-curve - Highway State Route 313. Awesome scenery, and a great drive. Continue on, and you reach Dead Horse Point, and Island in the Sky.ReplyDelete
hanks man for the excellent job, not only count the people who comment here, there are thousands of people that watch all of your filming location posts and don't comment, I bet we are thousands of fans of this excellent webpage for movie lovers, I would also donate to anything, gasoline, tickets if you put it, you should put a donation button. Thanks again man.ReplyDelete
I want to thank you for the great job, very interesting, especially since I very love this movie!ReplyDelete
(sorry for my English, I'm from Russia)
Nobody has found the location of where Jeff drives into the river trying to escape Earl?ReplyDelete
It's at Mammoth Bar, off of Old Foresthill Rd. just East of Auburn, Ca. He drives into the American River.Delete
I found this location in 2005. Go here for all my Breakdown pictures: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrlocation/albums/72157632018133624Delete
I have pictures from 2005 of this location ...Delete
Excelente trabalho de localização dos sets de filmagem. Muito bom mesmo!ReplyDelete
Your website is brilliant. I was sitting here watching Breakdown and was trying to find locations when I stumbled onto your website. Excellent work. Wish I had time to do this.ReplyDelete
Thanks for posting this! I've been to that Texaco many times north of Moab and think about this movie every time. Also, In the early scenes of the movie, it appears they are driving back towards 191 coming from Canyonlands. The path carved in the rock on those turns and the two buttes Monitor & Merrimack in the distance.ReplyDelete
Excelent post, thank you !!!ReplyDelete
Very good, thanksReplyDelete
Nice composition of now and then filming locations for 'Breakdown'!ReplyDelete
The odd thing about this movie is that most Kurt Russell fans(mainly women!) have seen the rest of his works, just not this film. How could that happen?
What a great job, never to late to thank you for sharing this post. It's been 26 years since this movie was released I remember it like yesterday, the first time I watched it I was with my family and I remember the scene where Kurt Russell open the door of little Deke's room and my parents said "look! the videogame you play", refering to the Doom videogame playing at TV. A truly underrated movie which will last forever. Thanks again for sharing this master piece.ReplyDelete
